D.T. Fleming Beach Maui
Public Beach Near the Ritz Carlton Hotel
D.T. Fleming Beach Park (not Flemming) is the closest beach to the Ritz Carlton Maui. Like all beaches in the state of Hawaii, it is public, so you don’t have to be staying at the Ritz to use this beach.
The beach is about 1500 feet long. Winds and waves and surf are strong here, so it is often recommended as the best west side beach for boogie boarding, but is not a good place for inexperienced swimmers. Trees behind the beach provide large areas of shade if you want to lay on the beach but stay out of the direct sun. Snorkeling is not good here because the waves stir up the sand and make the water cloudy. There are showers, restrooms, picnic facilities, and usually a lifeguard. Fleming Beach was named “America’s Best Beach” in 2006 by Dr. Beach (Stephen Leatherman).
