About Taverna Maui
With the full name of “Taverna Urban Drinks + Italian Eats,” the location in Kapalua, and the beautiful setting, I was surprised to find the prices here to be moderate for Maui, definitely less expensive than the other fine dining restaurants in this area. Most tables are indoors, with a few on the outdoor patio. Nearly all the tables have lovely views of the adjacent golf range, the West Maui Mountains, and a bit of the ocean in the distance.
The dinner menu has many choices of salads, soups, appetizers, fish, meat, vegetarian, pasta, and pizza. I’ve tried many dishes here, and they have all been excellent. Some of my favorites are the “share plates” such as Crudo, antipasti, polpette (meatballs), fried shrimp & calamari, olives, bread, and pizzas.
When you call for your reservation for dinner, and again when you arrive at the restaurant, ask for Kelly to be your server, and you will get friendly, welcoming service.
The three partners who own and run this restaurant have created a wonderful addition to Maui dining. Chris Kaiwi, the manager owner, has years of experience managing two other top Kapalua restaurants, Plantation House and Pineapple Grill. Roger Stettler, the chef-owner, is from Europe and has worked around the world, and he says his menu here is inspired by his Italian mother. Greg Shepherd, the wine expert owner, was formerly the wine director at one of Wailea’s top restaurants.
