Reviews of Maui’s Best Restaurants by price, diet, and area

My wife and I have eaten at most Maui restaurants, and we go back to many of them every year, just to keep these ratings up to date. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. Here are links to my reviews, including Maui restaurant menus and photos of the food:

A few tips to help you choose where to eat on Maui:

  1. On each of the above-linked pages, the restaurants are listed in order of my recommendations.  So choose the ones from the top half of each list on the linked pages for the places I feel are the best.
  2. Don’t eat all of your meals at the restaurant in your hotel.  There is a huge variety of restaurants all over Maui that are fun to try out.
  3. Many of the restaurants on my “Inexpensive” list are excellent, so you don’t have to go to the expensive fine-dining places for a great meal. If you want something a little more upscale, try the restaurants on the “Moderate” list.  Then when you want to splurge on a fancy night out, choose one from the “Fine Dining” list.
  4. There are numerous wonderful restaurants on each side of Maui, so there is no need to drive an hour for a great meal.  If you are staying on the west side, eat at west side restaurants, and if you are staying on the south side, eat at south side restaurants. The west side includes Lahaina, Kaanapali, Honokowai, Kahana, Napili and Kapalua.  The south side includes Kihei and Wailea.  On each of the above-linked pages, each restaurant tells you which side or which town it is in.
  5. The time to try out the Central Upcountry and North restaurants is when you are sightseeing in those parts of Maui, so you don’t need to make a special trip to go to those. You can also eat at the central area restaurants on your way to or from shopping at Costco and Walmart, or to and from the airport.
  6. If you stay in a condo instead of a hotel, you can eat at least breakfast, and some lunches or dinners, in your condo, to avoid the cost of restaurants for every meal.
  7. You are going to need a Maui car rental to get to these restaurants, so see the page linked in this paragraph to find out how to get the best deals on rental cars for your stay in Maui.
