James Hogg – OGG
The Video Story Of The Pioneering Pilot From Whom OGG Got Its Initials
James Bertram Hogg (1908-1992) was a pioneering pilot for flights between the Hawaiian islands. Kahului Airport, Maui’s main airport and the only airport on Maui with non-stop flights to and from the mainland United States or any other country, goes by the initials OGG in honor of James Hogg.
The video on this page shows the history of inter-island aviation, and the history of James Hogg, working his way up from mechanic to pilot to director of flight operations for Hawaiian Airlines. You’ll see the kinds of planes he flew over his career, from early small propeller planes to full-size jets, and learn why OGG received its airport initials in his honor.
