You brought your children along to Maui. Now, what are you going to do to keep them happy and entertained?
Maui Alpaca in Pukalani (808) 500-2577
Maui Alpaca is an eight-acre farm located Upcountry with alpacas and angora bunnies. This farm offers daily farm visits and picnic lunches, giving visitors the chance to meet the animals and feed the alpacas. Farm visits are ideal for kids— the animals are mellow, and they enjoy making new friends. Plus, tours run just one hour, leaving little time for kids to get restless. Reservations are required!

Trampoline Park Kahului (808) 214-JUMP
Most people don’t think about indoor activities when visiting the outdoor paradise we call home. But there are plenty of times where it makes more sense than being out. Conveniently located in Kahului, you can stop for an hour or 2 when the mid-day summer heat index is scorching and enjoy their massive helicopter fans while the kids go nuts! Another great time to visit is when it’s raining. Why ruin a day in your hotel room when you can get some energy out and have a blast. But really, anytime is a good time to jump into the foam pits, play basketball like a superstar, and team up in dodgeball.

Maui Custom Charters (S/V Nova & S/V Artemis) in Maalaea (south end of the central valley of Maui) 808-874-1110
In today’s times, it’s nice to escape the crowds and put your attention on family and only family. Private tours aboard the S/V Artemis, a 47′ sailing catamaran, or the S/V Nova, a 42′ sailing yacht allow you to experience the protected waters around Maui’s south and west shore with an experienced captain and crew. Customize your tour or go snorkeling, whale watching, or on a sunset cruise!

The Maui Cookie Lady in Makawao (808) 793-3172
If you’re traveling with kids, pencil in time for a stop at The Maui Cookie Lady in Makawao. The shelves in this fairytale-like shop on Baldwin Avenue are stuffed with mouth-watering sweets, including The Maui Cookie Lady’s giant cookie concoctions. Kids will go crazy over the sheer amount of treats and the shop’s whimsical atmosphere. The Maui Cookie Lady is open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday and 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday.

Maui Ocean Center (aquarium) in Maalaea (south end of the central valley of Maui) 808-270-7000
Excellent aquarium takes about two hours to tour. Includes exhibits about Maui’s sea life, including live fish, sharks, turtles, rays, and others. This is one of the best things to do in Maui with kids, but it is more expensive than most of the other things described on this page.

Hike in the park in Iao Valley
The Iao Needle is a 2,250-foot tall rock formation surrounded by lush green mountains, in the center of the west half of Maui, 22 miles from Kaanapali Beach. Small admission charge per car. The road into the Iao Valley begins in the center of downtown Wailuku. Take an umbrella, since there is often a light steady drizzle there. Walk along the path from the parking lot. There are great views from the top of the walkway, and a lovely stream to stroll by at the bottom of the walkway. Wear bug repellant for the walk by the stream.

Baby Beach in Lahaina (if they are too young for the waves at other beaches)
Baby Beach has much calmer waters than most other beaches because an offshore breakwater blocks many of the big waves from reaching the shore. This makes it a good place for children to go in the ocean, though even here they of course need adult supervision. Baby Beach is in the north part of Lahaina. See how to find it at this link:
Baby Beach
See a different beach every day
All beaches in Hawaii are public. Try out several beaches while you are on Maui. Each beach is different and each beach is beautiful. On West Maui (Lahaina side) I suggest Kaanapali, Kapalua, Olowalu (Mile Marker 14). On the south side (Kihei-Wailea) I suggest Kamaole III, Keawakapu, Big Beach. Going to the beach is the most popular of the free things to do in Maui with kids.
Snorkel (if they are old enough and well-supervised)
Rent your snorkel gear at The Snorkel Store or Maui Dive Shop or Snorkel Bob’s for about half the price they charge at the big hotels. A good place to take children for their first snorkel is Baby Beach, in Lahaina, because the water is usually calm at that beach (see link above). More snorkel information is on the following page:

Bumper boats, miniature golf, rock wall climbing, and trampoline
These four activities are all at the Maui Golf & Sports Park, open every day in Maui’s central valley near the aquarium.
Hula show free at Lahaina Cannery Mall 808-661-5304
Weekdays have adult hula dancers, but young kids often enjoy weekends when the hula dancers are children. “Keiki” is Hawaiian for “children” so check for keiki hula shows.

Luau at the Hyatt 661-1234 or Royal Lahaina 808-661-3611
These two luaus are more showy, so more entertaining for kids, (and less expensive for families) than the more authentic Hawaiian luau at Old Lahaina Luau 667-1998. You can usually get discounts on those hotel luaus with links on my Maui Luau reviews.
Dan’s Greenhouse 808-661-8412
At 626 Front Street, upstairs, in Lahaina. Live birds and other animals and plants to see or buy.
