Shopping For Hawaiian Airlines Flights
Guide to finding the best prices on Hawaiian Airlines
Hawaiian Airlines has the best service and the best on-time record for flights to and from Maui and the other Hawaiian islands. They are rated the best carrier serving Hawaii by both Travel & Leisure Magazine and Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.
Hawaiian Air is Hawaii’s dominant air carrier, and they fly to the major Hawaiian airports: Kahului (OGG) on Maui, Honolulu (HNL) on Oahu, Hilo (ITO) and Kona (KOA) on the Big Island of Hawaii, and Lihue (LIH) on Kauai.
The airplanes that Hawaiian Airlines flies between Hawaii and the mainland are gradually being switched from Boeing 767’s to Airbus 321 or 330. They fly mostly Boeing 717’s between one Hawaiian island and another.
A great way to compare ticket prices for Hawaiian Airlines and all the other carriers to Hawaii, using Orbitz, Expedia, CheapTickets, Travelocity, Hotwire, Priceline, and others all at once, is to use Google Flights to save time by filling in your city and travel dates just once, and have the box then find deals for you on several of those websites. The airport code for Maui is OGG.
Hawaiian Airlines history
Hawaiian Airlines was founded in 1929 as Inter-Island Airways. They changed their name to Hawaiian Airlines in 1941.
They started the switch from propeller planes to jets in 1966. They made the switch to their current Boeing 767 and 717 aircraft starting in 2002.
Since 2003, Hawaiian Airlines has added routes to Hawaii from multiple additional cities in the U.S., the South Pacific, Korea, and Japan.
Hawaiian increased its flights further (including more inter-island flights) after Aloha Airlines went out of business in 2008.
